Questionnaire on the subject of elimination of discrimination against leprosy affected persons and their family membersRegarding Your addressing for submission data on the subject of elimination of discrimination against leprosy affected persons and their family members, the Institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro emphasizes the following: Ours Institution does not possess the requested information, relating to the leprosy affected persons. Therefore, we asked the Institute of Public Health (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention) to provide us with data on the number of persons affected by leprosy and the manner of their treatment. The above mentioned institution within its jurisdiction, maintain records of all infectious diseases, as well as the leprosy. We are informed that, according to the current legislation in Montenegro, leprosy is not on the list of mandatory reporting infectious diseases. However, government body responsible for health affairs (Ministry of Health) may establish other mandatory reporting infectious diseases, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the European Commission, the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, or the proposal of the Institute of Public Health. According to the information from the Institute of Public Health, since 1945 in Montenegro are registered sporadic cases of leprosy. The last case was registered in 1987.Also, the Institution of the Protector did not receive and did not act on complaints of persons affected by leprosy, because of possible discrimination and exclusion from society of such persons. We note, the Institution of the Protector, among other activities, undertakes measures and actions to eliminate specific appearances of discrimination.
