The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has the honour to invite all United Nations Member States, international agencies, intergovernmental organizations, national human rights institutions and non-governmental organizations to attend a public consultation organized by the Independent Expert in the field of cultural rights, Ms. Farida Shaheed, on “Access to cultural heritage as a human right”.
The Independent Expert’s annual report to the Human Rights Council, to be presented in June 2011, will be devoted to the issue of “Access to cultural heritage as a human right”. The consultation will complement the questionnaire on access to cultural heritage sent to all stakeholders. It will provide an opportunity for States, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions and other interested stakeholders to contribute their views.
The consultation will take place in Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, Room XXI, on 10 February 2011, from 10 am to 1 pm, and if necessary, from 3 to 6 pm.
There will be simultaneous interpretation into English, French and Spanish.
