The right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has the honour to invite all United Nations Member States, international agencies, intergovernmental organizations, national human rights institutions and non-governmental organizations to attend a public consultation organized by the Independent Expert in the field of cultural rights, Ms. Farida Shaheed, on “The right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications”.

The Independent Expert’s annual report to the Human Rights Council, to be presented in June 2012, will be devoted to the issue of “The right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications”. The consultation will provide an opportunity for States, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions and other interested stakeholders to contribute their views.

The questionnaire on the right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications was sent to all stakeholders. The submissions could be sent electronically to ieculturalrights@ohchr.org no later than 25 November 2011. Kindly limit your responses to 2,500 words and attach annexes where necessary. Please also indicate if you have any objections with regard to your reply being posted on the OHCHR website.

Logistical Information:

The consultation will take place in Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, Room XXIII, on 7 December 2011, from 10 am to 1 pm, and if necessary, from 3 to 6 pm.

There will be simultaneous interpretation into English, French and Spanish.
