In June 2006, the Commission on Human Rights was replaced by the Human Rights Council pursuant to the General Assembly resolution 60/251. On 18 June 2007, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 5/1 which extended the mandate. The Council also adopted resolution 5/2, containing a Code of Conduct for special procedures mandate holders.
Information from treaty bodies relevant to the mandate
The human rights treaty bodies are committees of independent experts that monitor implementation of the core international human rights treaties. They are created in accordance with the provisions of the treaty that they monitor. In their Concluding Observations on State reports, the treaty bodies have included information which falls under the mandate of the Independent Expert.
