Right to Development

DEVELOPMENT IS A HUMAN RIGHT FOR ALL

Fifth session of the High-Level Task Force on the implementation of the right to development, 1-9 April 2009, room XXI, Palais des Nations, Geneva

The session of the Task Force will focus on the implementation of its work plan, recommended by the intergovernmental open-ended Working Group on the right to development in its report A/HRC/9/17 and endorsed by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 9/3. At this meeting, the Task Force will continue the process of ongoing dialogue with the selected partnerships: the African Peer Review Mechanism, the ECA/OECD-DAC Mutual Review of Development Effectiveness, the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Cotonou Partnership Agreement between African, Caribbean and Pacific countries and the European Union. Furthermore and in the context of its workplan mentioned above, the Task Force will consider the evaluation of other global partnerships in the areas of access to essential medicines, which include the Intergovernmental Working Group on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, as well as dialogue with the partnerships in the areas of debt relief and transfer of technology. In addition to its institutional members - the World Bank, IMF, WTO, UNDP, UNCTAD and UNESCO, the Task Force has invited all partnerships and relevant institutions to the meeting. Member States and non-governmental organisations have been invited to participate as observers in the public segment of the session from 10 AM on 1 April to 3 PM on 3 April 2009.
