International Migrants Day, 18 December
In 1997 migrant organizations in Asia began marking 18 December as the International Day of Solidarity with Migrants. On 4 December 2000, the UN General Assembly declared December 18 to be International Migrants Day. The day marks an opportunity to draw attention to the contributions of migrants and to the need to promote and protect the rights of all migrants.
