The 2011 Social Forum
The 2011 Social From took place from 3 to 5 October 2011 in Room XVIII, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, in accordance with paragraph 6 of Human Rights Council resolution 16/26 entitled “The Social Forum”.
As requested by the Council in the above-mentioned resolution, the 2011 Social Forum focuses on:
- The promotion and effective realization of the right to development, in the context of the commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development;
- Measures and actions needed to make the right to development a reality for everyone at the local, national, regional and international levels, including the role and contribution of civil society and non-governmental organizations;
- International assistance and cooperation, as well as the promotion of an enabling environment for the realization of the right to development.

Non- governmental organisations, civil society groups and experts discuss the complex issues surrounding development as a human right.
