Human Rights Council, 21st session: Side event – “International Solidarity and Human Rights: Meeting Between the Independent Expert and Civil Society” 14th of September from 3 to 5 p.m. in Room XI at the Palais de Nations. Event co-organised by New Humanity, Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII, Caritas Internationalis, Dominicans for Justice and Peace (Order of Preachers) and OIDEL and co-sponsored by the Geneva Catholic Inspired NGOs Forum, Good Neighbours International and North-South XXI (See programme).

The independent expert on human rights and international solidarity, Ms. Virginia Dandan is currently in Timor Leste for the DIPLOMACY TRAINING PROGRAM (DTP) 22nd Annual Regional Human Rights Peoples’ Diplomacy Capacity Building Program being held for human rights defenders of the Asia-Pacific region from 26 November to 10 December 2012. The two-week programme is being held in Dili on the invitation of its Founder and Patron, José Ramos-Horta, 1996 Nobel Peace Laureate and former President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Timor Leste. Ms. Dandan was invited to conduct and facilitate training sessions on the right to international solidarity; human rights in development; economic, social and cultural rights and the concept of State obligations; human rights in development; and, extraterritorial obligations of States in the field of economic, social and cultural rights. During her stay in Timor Leste, Ms. Dandan will also hold consultations with various stakeholders, on the right to international solidarity.
