Expert Group Meeting on the impact of armed conflict on people’s vulnerability to trafficking in persons, including sexual and labour exploitation (29-30 November 2015)

Participants of the expert meeting © OHCHRThe UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Ms. Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, convened an Expert Group Meeting on the impact of armed conflict on people’s vulnerability to trafficking in persons, including sexual and labour exploitation on 29-30 November 2015, in Amman, Jordan.

The meeting provided a forum to examine the current state of affairs in relation to how conflict situations can fuel trafficking in persons; and to discuss possible recommendations on the responses States and non-state actors should put in place in order to fight trafficking emerging from conflicts. it also provided a venue for enhanced cooperation and networking between national and international experts across the world on the issue of trafficking in conflict

In addition to the outcome of this expert meeting, the Special Rapporteur will further undertake researches into this thematic throughout 2016 for her reports to the UN Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, in which she expects to address the gap in research and action and offer guidance to States and Non-State actors on the impact of armed conflict on people’s vulnerability to trafficking in persons, including sexual and labour exploitation as well as removal of organs.
