UN human rights Chief, Navi Pillay says the judiciary has a critical role to play in fighting “the scourges of inequality and discrimination.” The High Commissioner made her comments to a gathering of judges and experts from the UN human rights office hosted by the Government of the Maldives.
The Colloquium for Judges on Equality and Non-Discrimination discussed, over two days, the interpretation of the principles of equality and non-discrimination by courts in the region and the role of judges in ensuring access to justice for all.
Pillay noted in her video message that her Office works closely with judges round the world. “Our aim is to support the judiciary, through the dissemination of good practices and comparative jurisprudence, and to facilitate the sharing of experience and insights among peers,” she said.
