Klau is the mother tongue of Gelao Zu, a minority living in China, especially Guizhou Province.

Klau, which belongs to the family of Kam-Tai Languages, is believed to be one of the most ancient languages in Guizhou. Besides Guizhou, there are also some native-speakers in Yunnan and Guangxi.
