Although Nanjing is the provincial capital of Jiangsu, one of the southern provinces in China, Nanjing dialect belongs to northern dialects of Chinese Language. Compared with the dialects of some other cities, such as Suzhou and Shanghai, Nanjing dialect is more similar with Northern Mandarin. The alternative name of it is Nanjing Mandarin.
