OHCHR in Pakistan

OHCHR deployed initially a Human Rights Advisor to the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Pakistan to assist with addressing human rights issues arising in the context of emergency response in the aftermath of the South Asia earthquake. Following the request of the UN Resident Coordinator, OHCHR will proceed with placing a Senior Human Rights Advisor within the UNCT to continue the earlier work on mainstreaming human rights in the humanitarian response and also to provide human rights advice and support to the UNCT in other areas of work.

2006-2007 Programme

The 2006-2007 programme aims to enhance the capacity of the UN Country Team to promote and protect human rights. Therefore, the primary role of the Senior Human Rights Advisor will be to work with UN agencies to mainstream human rights in all UN programmes and activities in Pakistan .

Expected Accomplishments

Enhanced capacity of the UNCT in Pakistan to promote and protect human rights
