The Human Rights Council established the Commission through resolution 26/24 of of 27 June 2014 and extended its mandate for one year to June 2016.
On 8 June 2016, the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea released its second and final report and presented it to the Council on 21 June 2016.
From HRC resolution 26/24: To investigate violations of international human rights law, as outlined in the reports of the Special Rapporteur on human rights in Eritrea
From HRC resolution 29/18: To investigate systematic, widespread and gross violations of human rights in Eritrea with a view to ensuring full accountability, including where these violations may amount to crimes against humanity.
