40th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women

In 2019, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, adopted on 18 December 1979. To celebrate this historic event, the Committee has organized a series of activities throughout the year.

The Committee is also actively supporting various initiatives of its partners to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Convention.

  • Joint CEDAW/UNITAR/IPU event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the CEDAW Convention: Panel discussion on “Eradicating Discrimination against Women: Milestones and Next Steps”, 8 July 2019 (date to be confirmed).
  • Joint side event on the margins of the 41st session of the Human Rights Council, organized jointly by CEDAW and the Permanent Missions of Austria, Moldova and the United Kingdom, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the CEDAW Convention: Panel discussion on “Trafficking in women and girls in the context of global migration”, 25 June 2019 (venue and time to be confirmed)
