COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Conference of States parties / Elections

The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is composed of 18 members of high moral standing and recognized competence and experience in the field covered by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Nominations for membership on the Committee may be made by States parties to the Convention, in accordance with article 4.3 of the present Convention. The article states that "The members of the Committee shall be elected by States Parties, consideration being given to equitable geographical distribution, representation of the different forms of civilization and of the principal legal systems, balanced gender representation and participation of experts with disabilities".

Members are elected for a term of four years and may be re-elected if nominated.
The following is a list of the names, nationality and date of expiry of the term of office of the current Members and those whose term of office will expire on 31 December 2020.

NEXT STATES PARTIES MEETINGS

On 10 February 2020, the Secretariat of the Committee sent a Note Verbale to all Permanent Missions inviting them to nominate candidates. The deadline to nominate a candidate for membership in the Committee for the period 2021-2024, is extended to 1 October 2020, replacing the earlier deadline of 10 April 2020. In reference to the decision of the Bureau of the Conference of States parties, made on 20 March 2020, the 13th Conference of the State Parties will take place in New York on the second week of December 2020 (dates to be confirmed taking account of the ongoing situations of the COVID-19 in the world and the host city New York).
