In accordance with resolution 5/1 of the Human Rights Council, the Advisory Committee is composed of 18 experts serving in their personal capacity: five from African as well as from Asian States; two from Eastern European States; and three from Latin American and Caribbean States, as well as from Western European and other States.
Members serve for a period of three years and are eligible for re-election once. Elections of new members currently take place once a year at the September session of the Human Rights Council.
