On 27 September 2019, the United Nations Human Rights Council established the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela through resolution 42/25 for a period of one year, to assess alleged human rights violations committed since 2014.

Mandate

  • Urgently dispatch a mission to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to investigate extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and torture and other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment since 2014.
  • Ensure full accountability for perpetrators and justice for victims.
  • Present a report on its findings to the Council during an interactive dialogue at its forty-fifth session.
