Multi-stakeholder Plan of Action for Advancing Prevention, Protection and Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons 2018-2020

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement (GP20), the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of IDPs, UNHCR, the GPC and OCHA has jointly driven this multi-stakeholder Plan of Action, in consultation with varies UN entities, INGOs, NGO consortia, ICRC, academia, Member States and other stakeholders. The Plan of Action has been developed with a goal to reduce and resolve internal displacement through prevention, protection and solutions for IDPs in line with the Guiding Principles. The objectives centre around four priority issues: IDP participation; national law and policy on internal displacement; data and analysis on internal displacement; and addressing protracted displacement and securing durable solutions.

All stakeholders are invited to support the Plan of Action by taking action at the local, national, regional or international level and inputting these on the following GP20 database website designed to keep track of all GP20 activities for enhanced coordination:

The Plan of Action was formally launched on 17 April 2018 in Geneva.
