The High Commissioner submits annual thematic reports to the Human Rights Council (HRC). Thematic reports document findings on particular topics and provide guidance and recommendations for UN member States, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

This report summarises the proceedings of the annual half-day panel discussion on the rights of indigenous peoples, held at the thirty-ninth session of the Human Rights Council. The panel discussion focused on the means of participation for and the inclusion of indigenous peoples in the development and implementation of strategies and projects in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and related Goals.

As mandated by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 18/8, the Council held its annual half-day panel discussion on the rights of indigenous peoples on 20 September 2017. The theme of the discussion, pursuant to Council resolution 33/13, was the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the UNDRIP, with a special focus on challenges and good practices in achieving the ends of the Declaration.
