Leadership in the Fight against Homophobia:
A Special Event at the United Nations to Commemorate Human Rights Day

Together with a cross regional coalition of States, Human Rights watch and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, the UN human rights office (OHCHR) is organising a special event on "leadership in the fight against homophobia" in New York on 11 December 2012 from 3:15pm to 4:45pm. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and French Minister for Women's Rights Najat Vallaud-Belkacem will both make statements and there will be an interactive discussion with three human rights defenders from Argentina, Malawi and Ukraine. The event will also feature special guest Yvonne Chaka Chaka, the South African singer known around the world as the Princess of Africa, who will perform a song from her new album. Representatives of UN Member States, international organizations, civil society, the media, academia and the general public are invited to this event, which will take place in Conference Room 2 in the North Lawn Building at UNHQ.
