UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples
The 36th session of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples’ Board of Trustees took place from 5 - 9 December 2022 in Geneva.
Due to continuous requests from Indigenous Peoples to be fully and effectively engage in the UN processes and meetings beyond those that are being held in New York and Geneva, the Board of Trustees recommended that the Fund would start to support indigenous representatives to participate in relevant regional forums and sessions that are within its current mandates. As a result, from 2023, the Fund will support the important participation of Indigenous Peoples in the regional forums of the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights Forum and the Bi-regional meetings of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
As per the approved Cost Plan for 2023, the Board allocated a budget for the travel-related purposes of 162 indigenous representatives to the following UN meetings:
