The Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (IE SOGI), Mr. Victor Madrigal-Borloz, is collecting information in preparation of his visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which is scheduled to take place from 24 April to 5 May 2023.

In accordance with the established practice of UN Special Procedures mandate holders, the Independent Expert welcomes all relevant submissions from civil society organisations and other stakeholders – particularly those defending the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender-diverse (LGBT+) people – that they may wish to transmit for his consideration in preparation for the visit.

Particularly useful information could include:

• Recent analytical reports or surveys related to protection from violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK);
• Information on policies, programmes, and the legal framework pertaining to protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, including any protection gaps that may exist;
• Priority issues, concerns, and/or situations that may warrant the attention of the Independent Expert during his visit;
• Suggestions of key issues to examine and related places to visit, as relevant to the mandate of the Independent Expert;
• Suggestions of civil society actors and/or Government institutions or officials in the UK, or any of its four constituent nations, with whom to meet during the country visit.
