Purpose: To inform the High Commissioner’s report to the Human Rights Council, pursuant to resolution 56/9.
Background

In resolution 56/9, the Human Rights Council (HRC) requested the High Commissioner to prepare a report on the impact of the civilian acquisition, possession and use of firearms and the underlying root causes and risk factors driving firearms-related violence on the right to participate in cultural life and the right to take part in the conduct of public affairs, to be presented to the Council at its fifty-ninth session.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights welcomes relevant information and inputs from Member States, civil society and other stakeholders in support of the preparation of the report.
