Summary

During his country visit to Argentina from 9 to 20 April 2018, the Special Rapporteur was given access to locations of deprivation of liberty throughout the country and was able to conduct confidential interviews with detainees of his choosing, for which he expresses his appreciation to the Government of Argentina. In his recommendations, he appeals for a comprehensive reform of the administration of the justice system with a view to moving away from the current focus on punitive retribution and towards the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.
