The present follow-up report, pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 47/25, outlines good practices and challenges in the application of a human rights-based approach to the elimination of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity. The report also offers an overview of the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on sexual and reproductive health, including maternal health. It puts forward conclusions and recommendations to prevent maternal mortality and morbidity and address the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and future health emergencies on women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health.
