The twenty-first meeting of States parties took place in New York on 9 November 2020 with the aim of electing eleven members of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to replace those members whose term of office expires on 31 December 2020. States parties to the Convention were invited to nominate their candidates by 6 March 2020.

At the outset of the meeting, Michal Mlynár (Slovakia) from the Eastern European Group was elected to serve as its Chair, Kittithep Devahastin Na Ayuthai (Thailand) from the Asian Group and Joan Josep López (Andorra) from the Western European and Others Group were elected Vice-Chairs.
