There are approximately 30,000 people that speak Matu with the majority of these people still living in Myanmar, but there are some Matu refugees spread out amongst the countries of India, Malaysia, Canada, USA, Thailand, Bangladesh, Australia, and others (a few have been resettled to European countries) that speak Matu.
