The Gumuz language is a Nilo-Saharan language spoken by the Gumuz ethnic group residing in the Benishangul-Gumuz regional state of Ethiopia, as well as in Sudan.The Benishangul-Gumuz regional state is located in the north-western part of Ethiopia with an estimated total population of 1,157,000. The language cluster extends as far north as the district of Metemma in the Amhara region of Ethiopia and as far south as the village of Dimt’u in the Benishangul-Gumuz region. The Gumuz people share much of the land with the Boro (Shinasha), Bertha, Oromo, Amhara, Kunfel, and Awi.
