BACKGROUND

The Rohingya language is an Eastern Indo-Aryan language similar to the Chittagonian spoken in neighbouring Bangladesh. The Arabic script has historically been used in its written form. During the course of British colonisation, Roman and Urdu scripts were adapted to the Rohingya language, replacing the previously-dominant Arabic.
