Country visits
Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism
The Special Rapporteur is mandated to undertake fact-finding country visits. These visits provide an opportunity to examine in detail the manifestation of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on the ground; to make recommendations to various stakeholders; to follow-up on previous recommendations; and to identify and highlight good practices.
During such country visits, the Special Rapporteur meets with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local authorities, civil society organisations, academics, as well as communities and individual victims of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.
At the end of country visits, the Special Rapporteur generally holds a press conference during which preliminary observations and recommendations are shared. The Special Rapporteurs’ final observations and recommendations are published in so-called country visit reports. These reports are presented annually to the Human Rights Council during its June session.
